Sidecars

Sidecars
   (Saiq-Ka)
Three-wheeled, human-powered vehicles (trishaws) that are still popular in Burma's cities and towns, despite the increasing use of secondhand cars, buses, and other motor vehicles. Sidecars are made from sturdy bicycles, to which a third wheel has been attached parallel to the rear wheel. Two seats, facing front and back, are fitted between the rear wheels, and can accommodate two or more persons, including children sitting in a passenger's lap, as well as baggage. The design is different from the well-known Vietnamese cyclo, in which the two wheels and seats are fitted in front of the driver. Cheap and convenient for people on short errands, the owners rent them out to operators, who must pay them a fixed amount of money before they have take-home pay.
